A Brief History of The Margaret Peacock Memorial Garden

Years ago, a group of friends living in West Gardiner began gathering over tea to share their love for gardening.   Eventually, this group organized itself into what we now know as the Garden Club.  One of those energetic gardeners was Margaret Peacock. Years ago, a group of friends living in West Gardiner began gathering over tea to share their love for gardening.   Eventually, this group organized itself into what we now know as the Garden Club. One of those energetic gardeners was Margaret Peacock.

In the years that followed, the Garden Club attracted additional members and began hosting a number of activities. The Club has offered garden tours, plant sales, fairy garden workshops, and art displays by local artists.

And Margaret was always in the thick of the activities, welcoming everyone with her warm personality.  Starting in 2012, the proceeds from these events were used to fund scholarships (always one and oftentimes more than one) for graduating West Gardiner high school seniors.

Unfortunately, Margaret passed from this earth all too soon. And the Garden Club decided to build a memorial garden in her honor.  Despite the pandemic, Club members got busy figuring where and when such a tribute should appear.  The original plan was to build the Memorial Garden near the town fire station.  As they figure out the where, when, and how of this tribute, the Garden Club will be accepting donations: monetary, manual labor, and/or building supplies are all welcome. Garden Club members will be donating their plants to the garden.
